Our Director of Training, Professor Michaela Swales, was trained by Marsha Linehan in Seattle back in 1995. Professor Swales has been instrumental in the dissemination of DBT into the UK’s National Health Service over the last 30 years, through her guidance and expertise biDBT has trained over 25,000 individuals and assisted in the formulation of over 650 DBT Teams.
Our Training Team
All trainers with biDBT have to have demonstrated sustained adherence to the treatment, assessed by independent raters, and, in addition, completed a rigorous mentorship programme in training. Meet our training team here.
All of our trainers have expertise in the implementation of DBT in UK & Irish NHS and private healthcare settings. We can analyse and help you solve problems in implementation based on our extensive experience with DBT in healthcare settings similar to yours.
Our trainers are all either currently or have recently been involved in the delivery of major research trials in DBT and hence are apprised of all the latest developments and practice DBT with an advanced level of competence.
Our Senior Trainers are all recognised experts in the field, with track records of publishing research and yet with the capability to translate DBT into invigorating and clear presentations that will promote your learning.

Being affiliated with the Behavioral Tech Institute means that British Isles DBT Training brings to you the latest developments in DBT training and those of other senior international researchers in DBT. Our training materials are sourced from the Behavioral Tech Institute and combine years of experience in training and delivering DBT with the latest international developments in the field.
What We Offer
We provide training in DBT at all levels, starting with introductory workshops and progressing to our Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Intensive Training™, which is regarded as the gold standard in DBT training. Additionally, we offer a variety of post-intensive workshops aimed at enhancing your skills and competence in delivering this treatment.
Alongside our standard DBT Training, our affiliation and licensing to provide this training have allowed us to collaborate with expert trainers worldwide. We are excited to offer training in DBT-PE and DBT-PTSD by hosting the treatment developers. Our goal is to provide these trainings regularly to mental health professionals in both the NHS and the private sector.
In recent years, we have developed several advanced DBT training programs. Our training team is uniquely qualified to identify areas of DBT delivery where clinicians may need additional support. They are well-equipped to facilitate learning due to their extensive experience in both DBT delivery and teaching. As a result, we can assist you and your team in providing effective DBT to your clients.
