Commitment to Net Zero
biDBT is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest, in line with the Welsh Government’s net zero ambitions and the requirements of WPPN 006. We are committed to measuring, reporting, and progressively reducing our Carbon Emissions over this time period.
We have signed up to the SME Climate Hub (smeclimatehub.org) and will use its framework and tools to measure our carbon footprint, set reduction targets, and track progress against this plan.
1. About us
British Isles DBT Training is the sole licensed provider* of training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) in Britain and Ireland. We run our primary business out of Croesnewydd Hall, in Wrexham, with some staff working remotely full time. With our dedicated network of trainers, we deliver training in DBT to teams and soon-to-be-teams across the British Isles, and beyond. The majority of our trainings are online, with a small minority delivered in person, or on location where required.
2. Baseline Emissions Assessment
As a small service-based organisation, we are not direct emitters of greenhouse gasses, however we recognise and strive to reduce the environmental impact we have through our work.
Scope 1 — Direct emissions (directly used by us)
- Gas heating at Croesnewydd Hall office.
- Company vehicles: We operates one company vehicle — a Toyota Corolla petrol estate (rented, rental commenced December 2023 for a 3-year term, due for renewal December 2026). We previously operated a Range Rover Evoque diesel (purchased December 2019, depreciated in December 2024).
Scope 2 — Indirect emissions (energy used by us)
- Electricity consumed at Croesnewydd Hall office, as well as by our remote workers
Scope 3 — Third party generated emissions
- Employee commuting: Staff commute to Croesnewydd Hall on a hybrid. Some drive, some walk or cycle.
- Business travel — training delivery: Trainer and event liaison travel to in-person training events (typically 1–2 trainers and 1–2 event liaison staff per event; rail or car)
- Business travel — conferences and CPD: Some staff attend relevant external conferences and CPD events a few times per year; this is by car or rail within the UK, and via international flights and connecting travel elsewhere
- Purchased goods and services: IT equipment, consumables, event materials
- Waste: Office waste from Croesnewydd Hall
We do not currently have a baseline carbon footprint. We have signed up to the SME Climate Hub (smeclimatehub.org) and will be using its tools to measure one for the financial year 2025–26.
3. Emissions Reduction Actions Already Taken
| Action | Detail | Estimated impact |
| Remote and hybrid working | Those staff working in the office have the option to work some days at home. Some workers are fully remote | Moderate reduction in Scope 3 commuting emissions |
| Online training delivery | The majority of training events are already delivered online, and have been since 2020 | This significantly reduced Scope 3 travel emissions, resulting in around ~2000 fewer journeys per year. |
| Elimination of paper binders | Paper delegate binders for training events have been eliminated except where specifically requested by attendees | This significantly reduced Scope 3 Purchased goods and services, saving paper, energy, since previously each attendee would receive a large binder in the post. |
| Cloud-first IT | Since 2020 all of our IT systems have been fully cloud based | This has reduced/eliminated the need to run any of our own servers, and allows us to take advantage of economies of scale to reduce our carbon impact |
