Suicide: DBT Protocol for Assessing and Managing Risk™
About the Course
This training is designed to help health care professionals learn best practices for suicide risk assessment and management. Participants will become familiar with chronic and acute risk factors for suicide, protective factors for suicide, and how to formulate an overall level of suicide risk based on these factors. Additionally, participants will learn when to screen for suicide risk and how to effectively engage with individuals who may be suicidal to assess and manage risk.
The training focuses on suicide risk management strategies used in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based treatment for suicidal behaviours. These strategies include general guidelines for risk management and a specific protocol for intervening in a suicide crisis situation. Participants will also be introduced to the Linehan Risk Assessment and Management Protocol (LRAMP) as a structured tool for documenting the suicide risk assessment and management process.
Note: This course provides an introduction to the DBT approach for managing suicidal crises but does not offer comprehensive training in DBT.
This training is ideal for those who:
- Want to begin treatment planning for suicidal clients.
- Need to assess long-term and acute suicide risk.
- Have no prior knowledge of DBT but are interested in using DBT targeting protocols for suicidal clients.
- Need to develop an understanding of managing the therapist’s response following a client suicide.
