Dr Jake Camp

Trainer in Training

Prof Martin Bohus

Dr Jake Camp is a senior clinical psychologist and DBT therapist working within a national DBT programme for adolescents. They have gained extensive experience in the delivery of DBT to young people and their parents/carers; providing supervision to DBT therapists; and delivering training and consultation nationally to expand DBT competencies in child and adolescent mental health services and corresponding DBT programmes.

They completed their Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience (King’s College London)and have continued post-qualification training in DBT. Jake continues to develop, deliver, and supervise research in DBT, with a particular focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion. They have developed and completed several projects with the ultimate aim of optimising DBT for LGBTQIA+ folk, while trying to centre the wisdom of lived experience, which has resulted in a number of peer-reviewed publications and a recent chapter on working with LGBQ+ people in DBT (Sexual Minorities and Mental Health: Current Perspectives and New Directions: DBT for Sexual Minority Populations; Camp, 2023). Another area of focus is the development and evaluation of DBT-informed parent/carer interventions.

Their research is conducted collaboratively between their NHS role and work within the Department of Psychology and LGBTQ+ Mental Health Research Group at King’s College London. This work has involved the dissemination of findings at national and international conferences and clinical workshops. These projects have been supported by two rounds of funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (DBT for LGBTQ+ Adolescents) and two rounds of funding from the Maudsley Charity (DBT-Informed Workshops for Parents/Carers).
