Ready for Life Skills - Managing the Discharge Phase of DBT

Course Date:

14-15 November 2024

Course Location:

Live Training via Zoom

Course Length:

2 Days

Course Description

This course introduces a new set of skills for clinicians to help manage the discharge phase of treatment. It is particularly designed for DBT therapists in hospital settings, although many of the principles can equally be applied in the community.

Dr Emily Fox, Director of psychological services at St Andrews Hospital, and Dr Christine Dunkley, Consultant trainer at British Isles DBT Training have put together their top tips on what to coach in your clients as they approach the end of DBT, and how to negotiate the pinch-points that can scupper the best laid plans.

There has been a paucity of information on managing this tricky phase of treatment, and for a long time people have been asking how to help clients cope with the major transition away from their DBT therapy team. This two-day workshop adds some structure to the process and gives some good ideas to smooth the path to a life worth living.

Content includes how to address the losses, practical lists of things the therapists and clients can do as the end approaches, and post-discharge planning.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites, anyone involved in the discharge process can attend if they are working with clients in DBT.
