Course Description

This 5-day training in supervision in DBT is divided into three parts.

The first two days of training, titled “Team Supervision Fidelity to the Model“, will focus on helping learners assist teams in implementing DBT with fidelity to the model, emphasizing its functions and modes.

The next two days, under the title “Adherence – Individual Supervision“, will teach participants the principles of supervising individual DBT practitioners. This section will focus on training supervisors to guide their supervisees in adhering to the DBT model.

On the final day of training, titled “Supervising in DBT“, participants will learn how to address challenges that arise in supervision. This day will include a combination of instructional content and problem-solving discussions based on the issues learners have encountered in their supervisory experiences to date.

Prerequisites

  • Participants must be accredited/certified as a DBT therapist by SfDBT in the UK and Ireland or LBC
    Or:
    If they are not accredited by one of these bodies, they need to have practiced DBT for one year post Intensive training (or equivalent training) or one year post Foundation training (or equivalent training) plus six months AND
  • They will have treated at least 4 clients, 2 of which completed the full DBT treatment
  • They will have taught all the skills
  • They will have provided between session generalisation support
  • They will be attending consult weekly.

Commissioned Courses Available:

Limited fully funded places are available for clinicians willing to offer Supervision to students on the Postgraduate Diploma in DBT. To be eligible for a funded place on the course you must be working in the United Kingdom and accredited/certified as a DBT therapist by SfDBT in the UK and Ireland or LBC. You will also be required to evidence that you have treated at least 15 clients, 8 of whom will have completed the full treatment.
